What is Yin Yoga?
While recent yoga trends have leaned toward the more active, aerobic modalities such as energy or power yoga, there's a place in everyone's practice for calm and stillness. In Contrast to the fiery, active, masculine energy of yang, Yin Yoga focuses on the stable, grounded feminine energies.
The motto of Yin Yoga is "let it go." You hold the poses for longer times, allowing the body to slowly stretch. As the muscles begin to lengthen and release, the stretch can go even deeper, involving the ligaments and tendons of the body. The mind is likewise still, making the psychological benefits of Yin Yoga akin to those of meditation.
